Fad Diets Vs. Lifestyle Changes

On any diet, one of the top questions I hear is “but will I maintain the weight loss?” As with many fad diets that are out there, it really depends on the person. If you diet for a quick solution to a long term issue and a lifetime of poor eating habits, studies show, inevitably, you will gain the weight back within 2-3 year’s time.
So how is Ideal Protein any different? For starters, our program is monitored by medical professionals under the supervision of a physician, and the diet is implemented in 4 phases. The first phase is the active weight loss phase, phases 2-3 are transition phases lasting 2 weeks (traditionally) each, and the 4th and final phase is called maintenance. There is education over the course of the program that is designed to teach you how to eat and maintain the weight loss after you have met your goal, but it ultimately comes down to the individual and how motivated you are to change your lifestyle.
Now let’s say you go on vacation and let loose and gain back 10 pounds. With the Ideal Protein Diet we offer at St. Luke’s-Saltzer, all you have to do is come back in for a “tune up” for a couple of weeks and you’re back on track. This diet isn’t just a fad. It is intended to be a lifestyle change and teaches you good, healthy eating habits for life.
